Obenaus - Zweigelt - Weinviertel

Zweigelt was created by crossing Blaufränkisch and Sankt Laurent, The goal was to develop a grape variety that was resistant to vineyard diseases while providing good yields. Initially, the grape was called rotburger, referring to the place where it was created. A few years later, its name was replaced with zweigelt, in homage to the man who created the grape.
