Quinta da Palmirinha - Louleiro - Vinho Verde

We tasted this wine at the outset only as a barrel sample (always tricky). When the wine arrived in storage we noticed the acids were way too high. There was nothing to do but forget the wine in the cellar. Now 5 years later, the Portuguese wine underwent a real transformation. The acids are much softer, but still playfully present, the fruit zesty, but the amazing thing is the petroleum smell, just like a Mosel Riesling. We had read about this in the past that Vinho Verde has the capacity to develop this type of tertiary odor upon aging, but we couldn't imagine much. At this price, this Vinho Verde is a "Steal.
